While 84% of Americans believe the news media is vital for democracy, nearly half of those surveyed in a new Gallup/Knight poll said the news media is “very biased,” with 54% believing that reporters misrepresent the facts. Knight Foundation’s Jennifer Preston talks with news media leaders Meredith Artley, Nonnie de la Peña, Mizell Stewart III and Charlie Sykes about their role on the Knight Commission on Trust, Media and Democracy. What recommendations made sense then? What needs to happen now?

This session is designed for:

  • Newsroom executives that are ready to take action towards rebuilding trust in journalism, making a full commitment to upending systemic racism in their newsrooms and communities and deepening relationships with their audiences
  • Local and national journalists looking to understand why their reporting and relationships in their communities, with all communities, is key to building trust
  • Anyone looking for inspiration and validation that journalism is vital to an informed and engaged democracy
