Using journalism to expose a problem is righteous, but rehashing well-understood issues can instead fuel news fatigue. Solutions journalism offers a way forward: by reporting on promising solutions, reporters can eliminate excuses for inaction and drive those in power to tackle the problem at hand.

This session is designed for:

  • Anyone who would like to better understand the principles of solutions journalism
  • Newsrooms interested in the hard news and reader engagement benefits of solutions-focused storytelling
  • Reporters who would like to enhance their beats and connect with readers and viewers

Speakers

Linda Shaw
Western Region Manager, Solutions Journalism Network
Susan Smith Richardson
CEO, Center for Public Integrity
Rachel Dissell
Senior Investigative Reporter, The Plain Dealer
