Introducing new ONA Board officers

ONA Board members elected new officers to the Executive Committee at their meeting on Jan. 26 in Washington, D.C. Please join us in congratulating the new officers: Mandy Jenkins, President; Benét Wilson, Vice President; David Smydra, Treasurer and P. Kim Bui, Secretary. The Board plays a vital role in guiding ONA’s mission and strategy, and we are grateful for their leadership and service.

Three days left to join the Journalism Mentorship Collaborative

ASNE’s 2017 diversity survey reported that minorities make up only 13.4 percent of newsroom leaders. ONA launched the Journalism Mentorship Collaborative to support newsrooms that are addressing this challenge. We are establishing a peer network of professionals for exchanging best practices for mentorship programs that aims to improve diversity. Applications to join are due this Friday, Feb. 2. There is also an opportunity to apply for funding for your organization’s mentorship programs.

What to expect at ONA Insights

We’re bringing ONA Insights to Toronto on May 11 and can’t wait for you to see what’s in store! Insights is a unique, participatory gathering for newsroom leaders, managers, executives and entrepreneurs. The Toronto event will have two tracks — digital revenue and audience engagement — and offer a mix of interactive sessions that dive into challenges and emerging solutions in each area. Registration opens in a few weeks and will be announced in this newsletter.
