Announcing Meghan Murphy’s new role

Congratulations to Meghan Murphy on her promotion to Senior Manager, Communities & Local Journalism Initiatives! Since joining ONA in 2016, Meghan has done incredible work to grow the ONA Local network and support local communities with digital journalism training, networking events and leadership workshops, including the ONA Local Summit. In her new role, Meghan will be responsible for building a holistic community and membership strategy across ONA, while also leading ONA’s strategy to continue supporting local journalism initiatives.

Meet ONA New Jersey

The launch event for ONA New Jersey is Wednesday, April 18, in Green Brook — spread the word to your journalism friends in the area! The event will be a chance to meet the leadership team and start seeding ideas for upcoming workshops. It’s always exciting when a new group joins the ONA Local family, now a global network of more than 70 groups connecting journalism and technology communities. If there isn’t a group near you, we have resources to help you start a new one.

Insights: Revenue + Engagement is only one month away! Join us May 11 in Toronto for this participatory event designed specifically for newsroom leaders, managers, executives and entrepreneurs. Some of the topics we’ll cover include membership models, audience development and live events with an editorial lens. Innovating journalism education and local news

Applications for Challenge Fund grants are open through May 3. We’re awarding grants of up to $35,000 to support new projects that experiment with new approaches to teaching journalism and covering local stories. We’re looking for educators and students to collaborate with local media professionals on these projects. Learn more about the program and start your application.

Two opportunities to join the ONA team

We’re accepting applications for two new positions on the team. The Administrative Assistant will contribute to general operations, membership and event support, record-keeping and special projects. The Strategic Partnerships Coordinator will support business development activities, including coordinating partner exhibits, sponsorships, advertising sales and other partnerships. Do you know someone who would be a great fit for ONA? Send them our way!

Upcoming events

ONA Local groups regularly host events and meetups for digital journalists all over the world. Find a group near you or get in touch if you’re interested in starting an ONA Local group.
