New ONA board members start their service

We are pleased to kick off 2024 with a warm welcome to our newest board members, who officially started their two-year term on Jan. 1:

  • Ethar El-Katatney, News Product Strategy Lead for the Americas, Bloomberg
  • Ryan Kellett, Vice President, Audience, Axios Media
  • Lauren Williams, CEO and Co-founder, Capital B

Angela Pacienza, Executive Editor at The Globe and Mail, was appointed for a second term and will continue her service through 2025. Learn more about the 2024-25 Board of Directors.

We also want to extend many thanks to Fergus Bell and Anita Li who completed their board service at the end of 2023. ONA is better for all that you have contributed the past few years!

Mapping the Midwest’s news landscape

Congratulations to The Pivot Fund — the team just announced an expansion of its media landscape analyses to the Great Lakes states with new support from Press Forward members The Joyce Foundation and McKnight Foundation. The research aims to identify news outlets that are trusted by people of color, but that otherwise would not have been considered by the philanthropic organizations looking to boost local news. The findings will inform Press Forward’s local news strategy in the region, starting with Minnesota.

As a fiscal sponsor, ONA has been a steadfast partner in The Pivot Fund’s work since its launch. We look forward to continuing the partnership this year and amplifying the team’s mission as their work expands.
