Move into a news product role

Join us Thursday, March 3, 2 p.m. EST (19:00 UTC), for an idea-sharing meetup to connect people looking to move into product roles from other newsroom positions and others who have successfully made the shift. We are excited to host this event in collaboration with the News Product Alliance ahead of the second annual NPA Summit. You will have the opportunity to both learn from others and share your experience. Register now.

New Grants for Journalists & Producers!

The Greater Good Science Center is offering grants of $5,000 to $50,000 to report and produce stories on “intellectual humility,” a focus of cutting-edge research with huge social relevance. Learn more and apply today! Deadline: March 31.

Legal affairs at ONA

The ONA Board of Directors collaborates with media law experts to formulate positions on legal issues that impact our members and other digital journalists. In 2021, we joined with the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and other journalism support organizations and publishers on numerous legal amicus and advocacy efforts in local, state, federal and international forums. Read highlights from these legal efforts, including on issues around anti-SLAPP laws in the U.S., prior restraint and public access to government information.

Rights, responsibilities and freelance rates

Freelancers, don’t miss this one: On March 3, the ONA San Francisco organizers are hosting an important learning opportunity about fair pay, equitable relationships with clients and how to negotiate any situation. Amanda Hickman, Berkeley-based media leader and Interim Executive Director of AIR, is the featured expert and is ready to answer your questions about journalism freelancing. RSVP now.
