We are looking for a Director of Technology and an Events and Membership Manager to join our mission to inspire and support innovation and excellence in digital journalism.

The Director of Technology will build and lead our web, technology and data strategy. We’re looking for someone excited to leverage cutting-edge tools and analytics to grow ONA’s products and services.
The Events and Membership Manager will design attendees’ experiences at our events—for gatherings small and large, virtual and in-person—and manage year-round connections with ONA members.

Both positions are open to remote candidates, with the option to work a hybrid schedule in our Washington, D.C. headquarters when conditions permit. Check out the job listings for details on responsibilities, compensation, benefits, and our staff culture.

Get a headstart on scholarships for ONA22

The 2022 Online News Association Conference (#ONA22) is Sept. 21-24 in Los Angeles and online. We’re excited to highlight two fantastic scholarship opportunities that support journalism training and networking, including attendance at our annual conference.

Applications are open through Feb. 11 for the Scholarships+ program from OpenNews: $250 and $500 stipends toward program expenses that help journalists who work in data and code develop their careers.

ProPublica and The Pudding are teaming up to offer $750 stipends for 25 students to attend a journalism conference. Students who attend a virtual conference may use any leftover funds toward expenses related to their journalism work. Apply by Feb. 28.

Remembering Curt Chandler

We mourn the loss of Curt Chandler, a longtime ONA member and beloved mentor in our community. Curt dedicated more than a decade providing mentorship and visual journalism training in the Student Newsroom and Innovation Lab at our annual conference.

“I loved watching him work with students in the newsroom — he wanted them to learn and to soar … For me, well, Curt was always there to help. With teaching ideas, with equipment recommendations, with a smile and always…always…a willingness to come to the rescue,” said Peg Achterman, fellow mentor and Curt’s closest collaborator in the newsroom.
