Announcing two appointments to ONA’s board

We are pleased to confirm two appointments to the ONA Board of Directors: Graham Watson-Ringo, Senior Director of Member Strategy at the News Revenue Hub, and Fergus Bell, Founder and CEO of Fathm. They will begin their two-year terms on Jan. 1, 2022.

The board consists of 16 digital media leaders who provide strategic guidance to ONA’s work and help build a stronger industry. Board seats are filled through an election process, during which all active ONA members have the opportunity to nominate a peer, submit their own candidacy and vote. Beyond the election, current board members nominate leaders in the community for two appointed seats to meet needs identified by the group.

Building on Tiffany Shackelford’s legacy

We are honored to share the news that family and friends of Tiffany Shackelford, a passionate contributor to the ONA community, have launched a foundation in her memory. The Tiffany Shackelford Foundation will carry on her dream to change the world by making more people — especially women and other underrepresented groups in journalism — believe in their own potential and then mentoring them to achieve it. It’s a big goal, but one fit for a powerhouse like Tiffany.

As an initial goal to kickstart their work, the foundation is raising funds to support ONA’s Women’s Leadership Accelerator. Donate today.

The Tiffany Shackelford Foundation is led by her husband, Aaron Castelo, and colleagues Laura Cochran, Barb Rosewicz, Kevin Goldberg and Matt Mansfield.

Your insights on engaged journalism

Democracy Fund’s Public Square team and Impact Architects are collaborating on a survey to learn more about the state of engaged journalism in the U.S. The 10-minute survey seeks insights and stories from journalists, journalism advocates and researchers. Aggregate findings from this effort will be publicly available and contribute knowledge to the field. Insights will also inform future Democracy Fund investments. Take the survey by Dec. 21.
