Discounted registration for ONA19

Early-bird registration is open for the 2019 Online News Association Conference & Awards Ceremony, Sept. 12–14, in New Orleans. Now is your opportunity to get the lowest rate on conference passes, and ONA members save more than $300 off registration. If you’re new to ONA’s conference, check out the session ideas our community pitched and resources from last year’s conference to get a feel for what to expect at ONA19.

Free training for journalism educators

Reminder: On April 24, educators in the ONA community are gathering for a virtual discussion about different ways of teaching solutions-focused journalism. Join the ONA Educators group to get involved in opportunities like this virtual event, share tips for the journalism classroom and find inspiration for projects.

Learn and experiment in the ONA19 newsroom

We are looking for undergraduate and graduate students to be part of the ONA19 Student Newsroom and Innovation Lab. The newsroom is a fantastic opportunity for hands-on learning with the guidance of expert mentors who are passionate about digital journalism. Students receive complimentary conference badges along with travel and lodging support to participate. Apply by May 23.

Job! Help showcase ONA’s story

We are hiring for a Communications Consultant to help tell the story of ONA’s work and mission. This opportunity would be perfect for a creative communicator with strong project management skills and experience producing compelling digital content for an organization. The deadline to apply is April 26.

From the archives: Evergreen strategies for engagement

We are sharing resources from the ONA archives throughout 2019, as we celebrate 20 years of inspiring innovation and excellence in digital journalism.

2015 MJ Bear Fellow Ariana Tobin led audience engagement for Bored and Brilliant, a project for WNYC’s Note to Self podcast that drew 20,000 people to rethink their relationship with their mobile devices. As part of her fellowship, Ariana — now Engagement Editor and Reporter at ProPublica — had the opportunity to share with ONA’s community what she learned about building a people-powered project and strategies for ongoing engagement.
