Join us for a presentation from the Hearst DevHub’s Tim O’Rourke and Ryan Serpico as they demonstrate the AI-powered tools and reader experiences the team has built for newsrooms in their network. The duo will discuss the learnings, pitfalls, highlights and surprises from their nearly two years of AI development as a central editorial innovation and strategy team that collaborates with the San Francisco Chronicle, Houston Chronicle, Albany Times Union and more than a dozen other local newsrooms.

Speakers
Tim O’Rourke is vice president for content strategy at Hearst Newspapers (HNP). He founded and oversees the Hearst DevHub, an editorial team of developers, data journalists and AI engineers who collaborate with Hearst’s local newsrooms and drive innovation across the network. He is the former managing editor and director of product and strategy at the San Francisco Chronicle.
Ryan Serpico is the deputy director of newsroom AI and automation on the Hearst DevHub. He builds AI-powered tools for journalists, develops interactive reader experiences, and advocates for the responsible use of generative AI in local newsrooms. He is a former graphics reporter and web producer at the San Antonio Express-News.

Where will the meetup take place?
This event will be hosted on Zoom. For this particular event, you’ll have the best experience if you join via the Zoom app on a desktop or laptop computer so that you can see the presentation on a larger screen. You can also join using the mobile app, although the presentation may be harder to view.
Can I dial in by phone?
