AI Innovator Collaborative

Join us for the August meeting of the AI Innovator Collaborative, a regular gathering for ONA members already using AI in journalism to connect and share ideas.

This month’s conversation will focus on building a career in AI and journalism. Several organizations have recruited teams of AI experts to lead strategy, and many others have an internal point person or committee focused on AI, whether formally or informally. If you’re interested in a career in AI, or in making yourself the go-to AI expert in your organization, how can you navigate that process? And how should leadership think about building a team to operationalize AI? What are the roles we’ll be hiring for in future newsrooms?

Our August host, ONA Board Member and Associate Editorial Director for A.I. Initiatives at the New York Times Rubina Madan Fillion, will share her perspective on how her team came together, how other organizations have approached this process, and how you can prepare if you’re interested in working in AI. And as always, we’ll have discussion among your peers to share tips and inspiration for how to approach this topic.

ONA Innovator Collaborative meetings happen virtually once a month throughout 2024 on the second Tuesday, with the exception of September, when a meetup will happen in person at ONA24. Participants also have access to a Slack channel to connect between meetings.

If you’ve already signed up for the AI Innovator Collaborative, no need to sign up for each individual event.

This series is open to ONA members, and you’ll need your member number to sign up. Learn how to find your ONA member number or join ONA.

Funding for ONA’s AI in Journalism Initiative is generously provided by Microsoft. To learn more about supporting this AI programming, contact Hanaa Rifaey, Head of Strategic Partnerships, at hanaa@journalists.org.
