ONA Weekly #463: Nominate Community-building Journalists

By on May 31, 2023

Seeking online journalism community-builders

Who has inspired you or made an impact on your journalism career? Has someone created a supportive community or an inclusive culture? Nominate them for the 2023 ONA Community Award

The ONA Community Award honors a person, small team or community in online journalism that has made outsize contributions to the journalism community or workplaces. This is an opportunity to recognize those behind-the-scenes colleagues who have had an extraordinary impact on the field by bolstering a sense of belonging and creating space for innovative work. Nominations from ONA members are due June 22.

Happy hour with ONA Philly

ONA Philly is hosting its first in-person meetup in three years! Join the group on Wednesday, June 7 for a casual happy hour and meet other digital journalists to discuss what types of programming and events you’d like to see from ONA Philly and make some connections before ONA23: Philadelphia. Register for the event – attendees receive a discount to ONA23.

Thank you, ONA DC!

We recently joined the ONA DC group for an evening of learning and networking. More than 40 attendees gathered to discuss audience engagement challenges and opportunities in light of changes to Meta and Twitter.

The evening began with a remembrance of Tiffany Shackelford, who founded the ONA DC community, helping to kickstart what would become ONA Local. Special thanks to our host venue, National Geographic, and speakers Kyley Schultz, Golshan Jalali and Sarah Gardner for making this event a memorable one.

The ONA23: Philadelphia program is here!

We look forward to delivering dozens of interactive sessions on topics including leadership and culture, innovative storytelling, inclusion and emerging technology throughout ONA23: Philadelphia.

The conference schedule is live, and we’ll keep adding networking events, sessions and speakers in the coming weeks. Ready to commit? Register by June 7, to take advantage of Early Bird discounted rates.
