Tips for building product and revenue strategies

New products and job roles are constantly emerging and evolving to support digital media innovation. At ONA22, we explored how some of these changes can be most effective in building audience engagement and revenue. 

Newsletter products continue to be a popular approach to expanding reach, engagement and revenue and they help with main newsroom goals. In Newsletters as Product and Journalism, an award-winning team from The Wall Street Journal discussed how they approach newsletters both as a journalistic format and as an audience-focused product. They share how the finite and tailored experience of a newsletter can result in more reader-generated revenue and allow writers and designers more room to experiment.

There are a lot of opportunities for philanthropic organizations to get involved in journalism. They just may not know it. Leaders of community foundations may not yet see how journalism goes hand in hand with their mission. Panelists in The New News: How Solutions Reporting Can Build Audience and Generate Revenue shared ways to connect with funders and explained how the pillars of solutions journalism can help in making the case for not just philanthropic funding, but reader-generated revenue as well.

The incumbent will showcase ONA’s programs and impact, and connect digital journalists to opportunities to improve their work and the industry. This position will also manage a digital marketing and communications portfolio, while contributing creative storytelling ideas that will benefit the global journalism community.
