ONA Weekly #410: Seeking Your Best Social Media Engagement Projects

By on May 11, 2022

Seeking your best social media engagement projects

The 2022 Online Journalism Awards feature a new category honoring Excellence in Social Media Engagement. We are looking to recognize projects by small, medium and large newsrooms that demonstrate outstanding engagement, whether it’s reporting repackaged for social media or original content created solely for social platforms. Entries in this category may include text, photos, data visualization, video, audio and other formats. Submit your best work to the 2022 OJAs by June 9

Represent your micro newsroom at ONA22

New this year: We are reserving a set of ONA22 scholarships specifically for digital journalists from newsrooms with fewer than 15 full-time employees. The Micro Newsroom Scholarship provides complimentary registration to attend the conference in Los Angeles or virtually. We want to hear about your newsroom’s mission and what you hope to gain from the conference. The first of three phases of reviews is happening late May. Apply now!

Assessing news quality

How should news quality be evaluated? If you are a working journalist, please help a team of University of Florida researchers address this question by completing a 10-minute survey. Each participant will receive a $10 Amazon gift card. Take the survey now.

Funds for audio awards submissions

The OJAs have bestowed special recognition to the craft and impact of audio storytelling since 2017. This year, we are proud to partner with the The Podcasting, Seriously Awards Fund to support independent BIPOC, Queer and Trans audio professionals in submitting their work.

Launched by LWC Studios — with AIR, Pacific Content, Acast, Triton Digital and Sounds Profitable as fund partners — the Fund accepts reimbursement applications on a rolling basis year-round and is committed to supporting 200+ award submissions each year, disbursing at least $20,000 annually. Audio professionals based in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States are eligible to apply. Submit your application now.
