How students are covering the coronavirus outbreak

In addition to offering legal resources for student journalists, the Student Press Law Center is compiling impressive student coverage of the coronavirus outbreak. See how students are reacting to leaving college campuses and holding their administrations accountable.

Calling for Congress to support local news

ONA joined PEN America and more than 50 other organizations in a joint statement urging the U.S. Congress to include support for local news in the next coronavirus stimulus bill. “Community-specific news has never been more important to ensuring people’s well-being, yet many outlets will not survive COVID-19 without immediate economic help,” the letter states. Read the full statement.

What’s next for Community Circles

It’s been incredible to see how many of you want to be involved in ONA Community Circles. Since launching last week, we matched more than 200 people into 41 circles, conducted training for the first of three groups of volunteer hosts and started making introductions. As of today, we’ve reached maximum capacity and will shift our focus to supporting these circles as they start to connect in the coming weeks. If you didn’t get a chance to join during this round of sign-ups, complete the interest form and we’ll get in touch if we form additional groups.
