ONA on Air: If you could rename ONA, what would it be?

Spoiler alert: ONA’s name is here to stay. Nonetheless, when co-founder Rich Jaroslovsky mentioned that “Online News Association” started out as a placeholder, ONA on Air Producer Ben Ellman wanted to ask our community: If you could rename ONA, would would it be? “Twenty years ago, the focus might have been on the word ‘online,’ and now that’s sort of a given,” said community member Nick DeSantis. Listen to the episode

From the archives: The first Student Representative

We are sharing resources and stories from the ONA archives throughout 2019, as we celebrate 20 years of inspiring innovation and excellence in digital journalism.

In honor of applications opening for the Board Student Representative seat, we’re looking back at Michelle Baruchman, who was the first to hold that position in 2016. Then a junior at the University of Georgia, Michelle’s plans for her term included increasing access to resources for students and promoting ONA Local groups. Today, she’s an engagement editor at The Seattle Times and moderated a session on digital forensics at ONA19.

These are tough times for journalism, but anytime I attend an @ONA event, I feel re-energized and more hopeful. I haven’t met a more committed group of journalists, or people more dedicated to lifting each other up instead of tearing each other down. #Happy20thONA — Versha Sharma
I’m grateful to @ONA for introducing me to some of the smartest people working in digital journalism, many of whom have become my close friends and advisors. Thank you and #Happy20thONA — Rubina Madan Fillion
