Announcing fellows for the Journalism Mentorship Collaborative

Please join us in congratulating the 16 fellows selected as part of the Journalism Mentorship Collaborative, a network of more than 100 newsrooms committed to growing mentorship programs that aim to improve diversity. The fellows will receive up to $5,000 in funding to support their ideas for mentorship programs, two days of in-person training, access to a virtual expert coach and the opportunity to share their work at ONA18.

Shake out your best ideas for ONA18 sessions

The Suggestion Box is officially open! ONA18 will be in Austin, Texas, Sept. 13–15, and we want to hear your session ideas to put together a great conference. We’re looking for ideas that are inspiring, instructional or both. Whether you want to focus on training others in emerging technology or sharing best practices for digital journalism, we encourage you to aim for interactive session formats. Anyone passionate about digital media can pitch a session, and all pitches are due by March 29.

Women’s Leadership Accelerator kicks off in Los Angeles

The 25 women selected to participate in the 2018 Women’s Leadership Accelerator are in Los Angeles this week to start the yearlong program. Activities for the weeklong forum include leadership training hosted at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism; mentorship on specific career challenges and site visits to area organizations, such as Disney Imagineering, RYOT and KCRW. If you’re in the area, be sure to join us at the ONA Los Angeles event on Friday, March 2, to meet the 2018 class and hear about women in leadership from local digital journalists.

Two new ONA Local groups launch in Texas!

Both groups will host their first events in March. Mark the dates for a meet-and-greet with ONA Corpus Christi on March 7, and a tour and social media discussion at the Houston Chronicle on March 22.
