Start an ONA Local group in your community

Save the date: The next online orientation for ONA Local leaders is coming up on Feb. 6. ONA Local is our global network of over 70 meet-up groups for digital journalists. The orientation is open to anyone interested in creating a group in their community. ONA Community Manager Meghan Murphy will share what ONA Local is all about and show you how to start connecting digital journalists with resources and local networking opportunities. Register for the orientation.

Funding applications for Journalism Mentorship Collaborative open soon!

As part of the new Journalism Mentorship Collaborative, we are offering funding—including a fellowship with ONA—to develop a mentorship program aimed at diversifying newsrooms. The Collaborative is a one-of-a-kind initiative and peer network to support news professionals committed to creating inclusive mentorship opportunities. Applications for funding and the fellowship cohort will open on Monday, Jan. 8.

Be API’s next Summer Fellow

The American Press Institute offers a paid 12-week program for ambitious students or recent grads who want to advance innovation in news organizations. API Fellows contribute to research and work on their own project. Apply by Jan. 7.

Jennifer Mizgata is Director of Programs at ONA. She focuses on identifying talented digital journalists and innovative journalism projects and providing them with support. She directs many of ONA’s flagship diversity, leadership and grant programs, including the Women’s Leadership Accelerator, an intensive program aimed squarely at advancing women in digital journalism.
