ONAPDX: Free event with filmmaker Cornelius Swart: Behind the making of ‘Priced Out’

An ONA Local event, hosted by ONA PDX

Join local Portland journalism groups, SPJ Oregon Territory Chapter, Online News Association – Portland and Solutions Journalism Network to hear from local journalist and filmmaker Cornelius Swart about the making of the documentary, Priced Out.

This free event will include some Q and A, film clips and time to socialize and network. Please email David Lippoff if you can make it: davidlippoff@gmail.com.

Swart is the project director and producer of the award-winning film about gentrification and its impacts.

Priced Out is largely volunteer-driven and began in Feb. of 2015 when Nikki Williams, featured in his earlier film, Northeast Passage, asked him to do a sequel.

Since then, the film has worked with a handful of contract producers and volunteers who have gone above and beyond to make Priced Out a compelling and impactful film.

Swart has established himself as a reporter with deep knowledge of the community. He published the Portland Sentinel, a community newspaper and hyperlocal website that covered St. Johns, North and Northeast Portland for five years. Since the time of his first film, he’s worked at the state’s largest newspaper (the Oregonian), largest TV station (KGW) and was director of content during the startup of the web-based news platform, golocalpdx.com. Swart volunteers his time to the project.
