ONA Western New England: Web Chat on Burnout Prevention

An ONA Local event, hosted by ONA Western New England

Want to participate in an interactive discussion about how journalists can prevent ourselves from experiencing burnout? Join ONA Local’s Slack chat on 2 PM Eastern Time on Thursday 8/17 to talk with us about warning signs and proactive solutions.

If you’ve already signed up for our channel, you can just go to onalocal.slack.com to see the conversation. If you need an invitation, you can request one here.

The chat will include downloadable mind maps that you can use to analyze your personal work situation and improve how you are doing. It will also include a set of discussion questions about how burnout affects us and our industry.

Kat Friedrich, cofounder of ONA Western New England, will facilitate the chat together with Hannah Wise, cofounder of ONA Dallas/Fort Worth. Hannah wrote an article about self-care for the ONA website recently.

Hannah Wise is the engagement editor at The Dallas Morning News. She oversees the newsroom’s social media strategy and seeks ways to cultivate conversation around The News’ journalism. She is a graduate of the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Kansas. In the fall she will begin her master’s in journalism at the Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas while continuing to hustle for The News.

Kat Friedrich is a news editor who is originally from Chicago, lives in Vermont, and has worked as a mechanical engineer. She changed careers to study journalism and environmental studies. Starting an entrepreneurial news project about clean energy led to her being recruited by Yale University as a self-employed journalist. She has a graduate degree in Science and Environmental Journalism from the Nelson Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is also avidly  interested in health and fitness.

Join several ONA Local groups in a virtual chat on preventing burnout.
