Social media’s fast becoming the go-to place for all kinds of news – including the bad and dangerous kind. So what happens when disaster strikes? When crime occurs down the street? First-responders, city officials, and law enforcement are now using Facebook and Twitter to issue updates and manage citizen queries. But it’s a relatively young process that the press and the public can help improve.
The question is: How? On Wednesday, March 14th, join KPCC’s Kim Bui (social media editor) and guest panelists who’ll address how social media’s being used by government agencies; what the reaction’s been to online tools; and where journalists and regular people fit in to the info-spreading picture.
