ONA Chicago: ONA17 Recap: 10 tech trends changing journalism – and what we can do about them

An ONA Local event, hosted by ONA Chicago

We went to the big Online News Association Conference in Washington D.C. and came back with lots of ideas, materials, and insights to share with you!

Local journalism, chatbots, audience engagement, fake news. We heard about it all, but nothing struck us more than data futurist Amy Webb’s presentation on 10 emerging tech trends that will impact journalism.

The good news is: We’re bringing this presentation to you! Come have dinner with us, learn about these trends and discuss with other Chicago journalists how we can prepare for the future of online journalism.

We know it’s been a weird year for journalism, with political changes, conversations around trust and “fake news,” and the alleged impact of bots, Russians and social media ads on the U.S. election. Here’s a chance to take a step from our busy routines to think about the profession and how we can plan ahead in the future to avoid such issues going forward.

We’ll have refreshments and plenty of time for networking. Product people, developers, storytellers, reporters, students, educators, web staffers, and editors are all welcome. Bring your ideas for future ONA Chicago events!

Schedule:

6:00 p.m.: Doors open

Grab some refreshments and meet new and old friends.

6:30-7:30 p.m.: Presentation
