Introducing new ONA Board officers

ONA’s Board of Directors recently elected new executive committee officers, following Niketa Patel’s transition to lead ONA as Executive Director/CEO:

  • Andrew Fitzgerald, Senior Vice President of Streaming Video Services at Hearst Television, has been Treasurer since 2023 and is now continuing his board service as the new Vice President.
  • Ryan Kellett, a 2025 Nieman-Berkman Klein Fellow at Harvard and expert in audience growth and creator journalism, joined the board in 2024 and has been elected by fellow board members as the new Treasurer.
Join us in congratulating Andrew and Ryan on their new roles!

Podcast revenue and audience growth with NHPR

Coming up Thursday, May 8, join us for the second session in our two-part case study of how New Hampshire Public Radio has built highly successful, revenue-generating podcasts. NHPR’s playbook has lessons for both independent journalists looking to make it in audio and networks looking to scale. We’ll hear from Rebecca Lavoie, Director of On-Demand Audio at NHPR, in conversation with Joni Deutsch, SVP of Marketing & Audience Development at The Podglomerate, about the tactics behind NHPR’s success. Tickets for this event are free for both ONA members and non-members — register now.

Two weeks to submit to the OJAs

Nudge, nudge: Have you started your entries to the 2025 Online Journalism Awards? “Be concise” is one of our top tips for creating award entries,, and the submitters we’ve seen do it well tend to have one thing in common: They start early. It takes time and careful planning to hit that balance of highlighting what stands out about your work and getting specific on strategy and impact, without overwhelming reviewers with every detail.

Submissions for the 2025 OJAs are due May 15. Review the categories and rules and get started today. If you have any questions about completing your submissions, send an email to awards@journalists.org
