FAQ: When can I submit my work to the 2025 Online Journalism Awards?
We’re excited to hear the enthusiasm for the 2025 OJAs and can officially share: The submission portal opens tomorrow, April 3. We’re just completing final touch-ups to our systems to make the submission process as smooth as possible for you. Entries are due May 15, which gives you around six weeks to get everything together. Here’s a quick peek at what’s new and especially of note:
- Volunteer screeners and judges will be selected through an application process, which will open alongside submissions.
- This year’s awards includes two new categories: Excellence in Science Reporting and Innovation in Revenue Strategy.
- The Gather Award in Community-Centered Journalism has refreshed subcategories to recognize projects based on the communities served: Urban & National Focus and Community-Based & Rural Focus.
- The Micro Newsroom size category, which offers a reduced fee of $50 per entry, is for newsrooms with 15 or fewer employees and includes independent creator journalists. When an award doesn’t include a separate subcategory for micro newsrooms, projects can be submitted under the small size category while still benefiting from the discounted entry fee.
As you gather your entry materials, now is a great time to review the full Rules and Eligibility and our tips for submitting. We look forward to learning about the impact of your journalism in the coming weeks!
