Newsroom Robots with Zach Seward (Live!)

We’re excited to announce Zach Seward, Editorial Director of A.I. Initiatives at The New York Times, will be in conversation with Nikita Roy at the ONA x Newsroom Robots AI Leadership Summit, happening May 19-20 in Detroit. In a live episode recording of the Newsroom Robots podcast, Zach and Nikita will explore how the proliferation of AI has impacted culture within newsrooms, and what strategies actually work to drive experimentation and innovation.

See you there? Registration is open for newsroom leaders and changemakers in journalism to join us in Detroit. Thanks to the generous funders of ONA’s AI in Journalism Initiative, we’re able to organize the summit with no registration fee. Attendees are responsible for their own travel, accommodations and meals outside of the summit.

One more day to pitch ONA25 sessions

The countdown is on, folks. The ONA25 Suggestion Box will close tomorrow—Thursday, March 27, at 11:59 p.m. PT. If you want to speak about your work at the conference or have a session idea that needs to be on the program, now’s your chance to chime in. Tell us how the programming themes—AI, climate and resilience in journalism—show up in your work, whether you’re an audience engagement pro, the philanthropy partnerships expert or managing a local news fellowship.

Testing AI-generated content

Since 2023, the Future Press project at the University of Texas at Austin has been experimenting with AI in news production and testing the tools’ boundaries in the context of journalism. Register now to join us online Wednesday, April 2, to hear directly from the team about their process and how they’re approaching transparency.

Speakers include Ryan Serpico, Newsroom AI and Automation Engineer for Hearst DevHub, Gracie Warhust, UT alum and Government Reporter at Community Impact and current UT students Angelica Ruzanova, Jonathan Hopper and Ashlyn Poole.
