ONA Weekly #549: Supporting Student Journalists

By on February 19, 2025

Supporting student journalists

ONA is proud to partner with SPLC and other journalism, legal and educational organizations to celebrate Student Press Freedom Day (Feb. 27) and amplify resources to support student journalists and showcase the importance of their role. Join us for an upcoming event — including Fighting for Our Rights: The Threats of AI & School Monitoring Software (Feb. 25) — or explore recordings of recent trainings like the O-Ed Bootcamp or Protecting Against Online Harassment.

How does resilience show up in your work?

Resilience in journalism can look many ways. This year we’re exploring deeper to showcase both fresh ideas and existing approaches to embed resilience into journalism careers, organizations and the broader communities we serve — and we want to hear your take. Pitch a virtual learning session or community conversation on resilience that you’d like to host with the ONA community.

Past related programs have considered how newsroom job roles are evolving in response to AI’s rapid growth, independent creator journalism and finding your North Star as a mid-career professional.
