Meet your ONA board officers

ONA’s Board of Directors voted on officer positions during their Jan. 28 meeting. We’re excited to share that Angela Pacienza, Executive Editor at The Globe and Mail, now serves in a new role as ONA Board Secretary, while Andrew Fitzgerald, Senior Vice President of Streaming Video Services at Hearst Television, was re-elected for another one-year term as Treasurer. Niketa Patel, Senior Director, Leadership Programs, at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, and Charo Henríquez, are serving the second of their two-year term as Vice President and President, respectively.

We are also pleased to extend a warm welcome to our newest board members, who started their two-year term on Jan. 1 and joined their first board meeting this week: Angela Chao, Head of Global News and Director of Content at Healthline Media, and Donesha Aldridge, Executive Producer of Digital Content at WXIA 11Alive. Does your local news coverage reflect your community?

Source Matters, a project of the American Press Institute, supports publishers to track and diversify sources in order to increase audience engagement and ultimately improve their journalism. In a new post for ONA, Director of Product Strategy Liz Worthington highlights how local newsrooms have benefited from source tracking.

API, in partnership with ONA, is also hosting a learning event Thursday, Jan. 30, 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET, to dive more into this approach. The discussion will cover specific cases of how organizations like Colorado Public Radio and San Antonio Report have applied source tracking to adapt their storytelling strategies and strengthen trust in their communities.
