ONA Weekly #490: Your AI News Diet

By on December 6, 2023

Save the dates: The 2024 Online News Association Conference (ONA24) is happening Sept. 18-21 in Atlanta.

Your AI news diet

It’s been an incredible year for AI. Within the journalism industry, we’ve seen a groundswell of experimentation in newsrooms of all sizes and an increased push for making AI systems (and their use) more transparent, inclusive and ethical.

ONA’s programming this year engaged a diverse group of AI and emerging tech experts to support our community in embracing these changes — including Karen Hao, Uli Köppen (Bayerischer Rundfunk), Joe Amditis (Center for Cooperative Media), Dalia Hashim (Partnership on AI), Nikita Roy (Newsroom Robots), Meredith Broussard (NYU) and Liz Danzico (Microsoft), to name just a few.

Beyond ONA, how have you been keeping up with AI and its impact on journalism? We already asked ChatGPT for some recommendations, and it delivered the usual suspects like Nieman Lab, Reuters Institute and MIT Technology Review (plus, ONA’s own conference). So, where else are you following these developments? Did you pick up a new favorite podcast, newsletter or course this year? Is there an expert who has been especially influential on your work and learning? Reply directly to this email.
