Apply to be an OJA screener!

We are seeking a diverse group of journalism professionals to help us discover great journalism to honor in the 2019 Online Journalism Awards. More than 150 volunteer screeners will lend their expertise to kick off the review process for the awards. Screeners represent all aspects of the industry, from local news leaders to broadcast journalists, data analysts and more. Apply by June 14.

Local news and education experiments

We invite you to explore recent work produced by the 2018 winners of the Challenge Fund for Innovation in Journalism. The program supports digital journalism experiments and collaboration between educators, students and local news professionals. Projects include Bitter Cold: Climate Change, Public Health and Baltimore by the University of Maryland, Capital News Service, NPR and Wide Angle Youth Media; Hamden Hunger Project by Quinnipiac University, The New Haven Independent and The Listening Post Collective; Rural Reporting Plunge by Washington State University and Northwest Public Broadcasting; and the latest investigation from the project Putting to FOIA to Work by Emerson College, Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism and MuckRock.

From the archives: Spotlight on collaboration

We are sharing resources from the ONA archives throughout 2019, as we celebrate 20 years of inspiring innovation and excellence in digital journalism.

The categories for the Online Journalism Awards — the only comprehensive set of journalism prizes honoring excellence in digital journalism around the world — evolve each year in response to feedback from our community and rapid changes in the industry. In 2018, we were thrilled to add a new category for Excellence in Collaboration and Partnerships, honoring organizations who have worked together in creative and innovative ways to cover a topic or story. Learn more about the first winning project Verificado 2018 and finalists Crossing the Divide and Paradise Papers.
