Introducing the ONA Community Award and call for nominations

By on July 12, 2018

We have an exciting announcement about the Online Journalism Awards! In addition to the 37 categories that were open for submissions, we’re delighted to introduce the ONA Community Award and want to hear from you about the individuals who have made outsized contributions, often behind the scenes, to advance the digital journalism industry.

The ONA Community Award will honor one individual whose contributions have transformed digital journalism, particularly by creating the kind of environment that inspires and enables journalists to do their best work. These contributions are often overshadowed by recognition given to individual projects, or to reporters whose bylines appear on finished work. Who are the leaders who have gone above and beyond to champion others’ work, help develop future leaders, support teams on trailblazing projects, transform newsrooms and more?

ONA members are invited to nominate individuals to the Community Award now through July 18, 2018, 11:59 p.m. ET. Submitters are asked to describe why a nominee should be considered for the award in 200 words or less. A special awards committee made up of industry veterans and ONA enthusiasts will review the community’s nominations and select the inaugural recipient.

The Online Journalism Awards launched in 2000 as the only comprehensive set of prizes honoring excellence in digital journalism, and since then, we’ve recognized the achievements of more than 1,500 finalists. Join us for the 2018 Online Journalism Awards Ceremony to celebrate this year’s finalists and winners on Sept. 15 in Austin, the last day of ONA18.
