ONA joins new global initiative to fight misinformation

By on April 12, 2018

I’m excited to share that the Online News Association has joined as a founding partner of the Global Council to Build Trust in Media and Fight Misinformation, along with the Ethical Journalism Network, European Broadcasting Union, Global Editors Network (GEN), Global Forum for Media Development and the World Editors Forum within the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA). The council was announced today at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia, Italy.

Misinformation is a global challenge that requires collaboration at the global level. The council aims to unite the global journalism industry in addressing misinformation by facilitating alignment and coordination. While newsrooms around the world have been creating and iterating on solutions for decades, many initiatives are standalone efforts that haven’t benefited from exchanging ideas and lessons with other teams tackling similar situations.

At ONA, we’re especially excited to highlight to a global audience the great work that ONA members are doing to fight misinformation.

The council has created a repository that will evolve into a comprehensive hub for projects and resources. The beta version is now live. To contribute, you can submit an initiative and provide feedback on the categories and features. You can also sign up for updates from ONA about the council’s work and ways for you to participate.
