Videos, takeaways and more resources from ONA17

ONA17 was full of inspiring sessions and great networking. With over 3,000 journalists, this was our largest conference yet and we’re still processing all the great takeaways. We’ve begun compiling conference resources and will add speaker tip sheets, slides and more throughout the week as we receive them from speakers. We’re continuing to upload video and audio as they are edited. A huge thank you to all the speakers and volunteers who helped make ONA17 a terrific event.

The best in online journalism was honored at the Online Journalism Awards Banquet, with General Excellence awards going to The Globe and Mail, Le Temps and Nexo Jornal. Photojournalist Tara Todras-Whitehill received the James Foley Award for Conflict Reporting and Jim Brady was honored with the 2017 Rich Jaroslovsky Founder Award. Meet the Challenge Fund winners

Ten universities have won Challenge Fund for Innovation in Journalism Education grants. Each project will receive $35,000 to support local news collaborations. For 2018, the Scripps Howard Foundation joins as the sixth partner to the Fund managed by ONA, in addition to the Excellence and Ethics in Journalism Foundation, the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Democracy Fund and the Rita Allen Foundation. Explore the Challenge Fund projects.

Women’s Leadership Accelerator returns

In 2018, the Women’s Leadership Accelerator will again accept 25 promising women leaders who are pushing innovation in their organization. Aimed squarely at developing strong leadership skills for women working in digital journalism, the program will be held Feb. 25- March 2, 2018 at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. Applications will open this winter.
