Maite is an Operations Editor at The Washington Post embedded in the Foreign and National Security desks.She optimizes stories for search, making sure the sections’ journalism reaches the largest audience possible. She’s constantly analyzing traffic data and making digital strategy recommendations. She also leads trainings on digital best practices and helps solve workflow bottlenecks.

Before that, she worked as CQ Roll Call’s audience engagement strategist, and was in charge of its social media and newsletter strategy. Previously, she was the Communications Director at ICFJ and worked as the Managing Editor of IJNet.org, a website for journalists published in seven languages. She started her career as a reporter in Uruguay, where she’s from, covering the capital’s mayor for El Observador newspaper. She has an M.J. in multimedia journalism from the Univ. of Maryland and is bilingual in Spanish and English and has a working knowledge of Portuguese.
