Tran uses human-centered design and systems thinking to fuel audience development, organizational change and business, product and organizational strategies for start-ups, nonprofits and media organizations including Reddit, Facebook, Google, ProPublica, AJ+, The McClatchy Co., Advance Local, Southern California Public Radio, the Online News Association, the Maynard Institute, the JSK Journalism Fellowships at Stanford, and Democracy Fund, among others. She is the co-lead of the ONA Women’s Leadership Accelerator and the founding managing director of media innovations/experiments at Stanford’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (the d.school), where she teaches classes on audience research, design and media. Tran also teaches at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Media and Integrated Marketing Communications, as well as the Farley Center Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Tran is based in Chicago. She has a degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame.
