Natalia Gutiérrez is a bilingual journalist specializing in the intersection of innovation, engagement, product development, and community building. Currently serving as the Climate Engagement Manager at The Associated Press, Natalia leads initiatives in audience engagement, grant-funded journalism, and community development. Her extensive background includes reporting, strategy development, data tracking, SEO, newsletters, and audience outreach.

Her career spans prominent organizations such as The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and The Verge, where she has enhanced both online and offline engagement for audiences in the U.S. and Latin America. Natalia is particularly dedicated to advancing the impact of climate stories and reaching diverse, underserved communities in both English and Spanish.

A Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM®), Natalia holds an M.A. in Engagement Journalism from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. Her passion lies in innovating ways to track and tell journalism’s impact while fostering meaningful audience connections.

My vision for the future of journalism is rooted in a fundamental shift: the starting point must be the audience. It’s not about the owners, the business, or even the journalists themselves—it all begins with truly listening to our readers. By genuinely engaging with our audience, we can foster the diversity and inclusion that both we and our readers deserve.

Additionally, I see a future where journalism fully embraces emerging technologies and platforms, using them to tell stories in new and innovative ways. This approach not only enhances how we connect with our audience but also pushes the boundaries of what journalism can achieve in a rapidly evolving world.
