Originally from Texas, Haley is an aspiring digital journalist in her third year at American University, where she serves as news editor for the student newspaper, The Eagle. Prior to leading the news staff, Haley was the paper’s web and social media editor. In May 2017, she led The Eagle’s breaking news coverage of a hate crime on campus targeting black students that gained nationwide attention. This past summer, Haley worked as a digital producer for USA TODAY’s college outlet, where she reported on descendants of slaves at Georgetown, bomb threats on campus, student reactions to Title IX enforcement changes and the consequences of white nationalist rallies in Charlottesville, both for UVA students and the students who marched in the rallies. This fall, Haley is interning on NPR’s education desk, where she hopes to gain valuable experience with reporting on national education trends. She looks forward to absorbing as much knowledge and wisdom as possible from the professionals and her fellow college journalists at ONA17.
