Carolyn Burt is a journalism major from California State University, Northridge. While at CSUN she worked on the university’s newspaper, the Daily Sundial, as the publication’s managing editor. There she launched the publication’s weekly newsletter and redesigned their social media strategy. Previously, Burt was the editor-in-chief for the Corsair, Santa Monica College’s award-winning student publication. Under her leadership, the Corsair received numerous recognitions including the Associated Collegiate Press’ 2021 Newspaper Pacemaker Award. She credits her time at the Corsair for transforming her from a journalism major to a journalist. Most recently Burt was an audience engagement intern for the Los Angeles Times. As a California native, she enjoys taking in the scenery her home state has to offer, whether it be hiking in the mountains or spending a day at the beach. In her free time, Burt enjoys taking boxing classes as a way to relieve stress. She also likes to dabble with illustrations in various mediums including drawing, watercolors, and digital. She is thrilled for the opportunity to be a part of the ONA22 Student Newsroom.
