Ruben Nyanquila

Ruben Nyanguila is a Congolese journalist and visual storyteller focused on rural communities across the Congo Basin, the world’s second largest rainforest. His work sits at the intersection of climate, culture, solutions and social justice, documenting untold stories with depth and ethic.

He grew up in a village where the local photo studio opened only twice a week, and where radio was the only window to the world. That dual exposure shaped his relationship to both photography and journalism. At 16, using a borrowed smartphone, he started a Facebook page to document his community, its struggles, its dignity, and its unspoken questions. That local initiative became a reference, and his commitment has never shifted.

He is an alumnus of the Oxford Climate Journalism Program (Reuters Institute, University of Oxford), where he deepened his approach to climate storytelling, and of VII Academy, where he trained in visual journalism. He collaborates with scientists from Digital Earth Africa, with support from Esri, to create map-based narratives. And, he now works as a freelance investigative reporter with Lighthouse Reports, a visual journalist with Pin-Africa, and contributes to other global outlets including Anadolu Ajansı.
