Owain Rich is a filmmaker and AR/VR specialist working at NBC Left Field in New York. He spent 13 years at the BBC shooting documentaries and experimenting with new visual techniques. His motivation has always been to fuse technology and journalism to connect with audiences in new ways. In 2012 he built the BBC’s first camera drone which led to a number of award winning programmes for BBC TV. In 2016 he created Trafficked, a VR piece for Oculus Rift which was the BBC’s first fully in-house VR production, combining journalism with immersive computer generated graphics. Owain’s latest work is concerned with bringing Mixed Reality to a News environment, and is working with journalists at NBC’s new digital unit NBC Left Field.
