'Tell a Friend' and earn a free ONA membership (and -- maybe -- a free iPad)

What makes ONA the fastest growing, most dynamic journalism organization? Digital journalists like you. So we’re hoping to bring a lot more of you into the ONA family through a one-month recruitment campaign with a name that says it all: Tell a Friend.

What can you tell them? That ONA is healthy and growing: 2009 saw a 12% increase in membership and our state-of-the-art conference has sold out three years running. Benefits include free and discounted training, no- or low-cost expert legal aid, expanding regional events across the globe, unmatched networking with journalists who are leading change in digital media, and steep discounts for our annual conference, the Online Journalism Award entries and more.

Here’s how it works: For every two friends who become ONA professional, associate or academic members by June 30 and write your name in the "How did you hear about ONA?” field on their membership form, you get a free one-year membership renewal, worth $75.

We like students too, so if you’re an ONA professional, associate or academic member, four student referrals will earn you a one-year renewal. (Basically, two students = one non-student.) And if you’re an ONA student member, recruiting two student friends will do the trick.

That’s it.

If you're thinking about referring more friends, go for it. Though we're only able to offer one year’s free membership, the ONA member with the most referrals gets a free iPad. So why stop at two?

If you're not a member, you can still participate by joining ONA first. Once your friends join, your membership will be extended one year.

So, forward this to your friends and ask them if they want to join the world fastest growing association of digital journalists and help shape the future of the industry. If so, they should go to our Member Benefits page, click on "Join ONA” and enter your name in the field that asks "How did you hear about ONA?”. Two friends later and voila! A free membership for you.
