SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 2, 2009 — The Online News Association, the world’s largest membership organization of digital journalists, today announced a partnership with the Newseum to develop an exhibit featuring seminal work by winners of the 2009 Online Journalism Awards (OJAs).

This month, the Newseum's Web site and its exhibit space in Washington, D.C. will feature interviews with a select group of this year’s OJA winners, chosen for their innovative take on online news, either in coverage, format or technology used. The winners will be announced Saturday, Oct. 3, at the 2009 OJA Banquet at the conclusion of ONA’s annual conference. The OJAs, now in their 10th year, are the only all-digital media awards celebrating the best of online journalism around the globe. They are administered by the Online News Association, in partnership with the University of Miami’s School of Communication.

“Too much important digital journalism is disappearing before our eyes, nearly as quickly as it’s published,” said ONA Executive Director Jane McDonnell. “This project will be a small first step toward an archive that will capture the best of new media for posterity.”

The display will find a home at a kiosk in Interactive Gallery at the Newseum, a 250,000-square-foot museum of news, which blends five centuries of history with up-to-the-second technology and hands-on exhibits.

“The Newseum chronicles centuries of news events through newspapers, television broadcasts, radio reports and films, and our new partnership with the Online News Association to capture the best digital journalism ensures that our collection will remain as current as today’s top stories,” said Ken Paulson, president and chief operating officer of the Newseum.

During the coming months, the digital news exhibit will expand to highlight milestones and innovations from a decade of achievement in digital journalism, focusing on the work and commentary of previous OJA winners, who will provide historical perspective to the earlier days of online journalism.
