Application process open again for free ONA memberships

Earlier this year, we started our Sponsor a Journalist campaign as part of our Challenge Fund Grant, asking for $75 donations to pay for free memberships for journalists who have lost their jobs to the economy. The response resulted in enough donations ($2,325) to welcome 31 new members.

And the response continued. By the May 31th close of our campaign, we received $1,650 more in donations, enough to cover an additional 22 free memberships. (For those of you who are counting, that’s 53 memberships total.) We’re now opening up the application process again until all memberships are claimed.

If you are an unemployed journalist and would like to take advantage of the training, networking and resources that an ONA membership brings — or know someone who would — here’s how to apply:

  • Download the membership application form (pdf)
  • Complete the form and, following instructions on the application, e-mail it to support@journalists.org
  • Memberships will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis
  • Program is open to unemployed journalists of any medium (we’re working on the honor system)
  • Applications are open only to non-ONA members
  • Process will be open until all memberships have been distributed

We thank you for your support and are glad to able to make this investment in our profession.
