Jeanne Brooks, Director of Innovation and Community Engagement
Jeanne Brooks, a cutting-edge digital strategist, is Director of Innovation and Community Engagement. She is responsible for diversifying and growing membership, building communities to serve member needs and creating innovative solutions for member issues. Jeanne oversees the social and communications strategies, is editor of the ONA Issues Tumblr and manages all programming for ONA including ONACamps, the ONAvations webinar series, the annual conference and other training events. She also directs the ONA Local program, a global network of volunteer organizers building networking and professional development opportunities for digital journalism communities.
With a passion for an informed public, Jeanne has long worked to provide solutions and opportunity to a changing media landscape. She came to ONA from the Media Consortium, where she organized programming and conferences for independent media professionals, helping them incubate new tools and best practices for digital strategies. In 2009, she was the outreach coordinator at the Center for Public Integrity, where she directed campaigns on eight comprehensive investigations and nearly 20 individual reports for a variety of public interest topics, reaching audiences of more than 20 million. Jeanne also managed digital marketing campaigns at the Center, and was responsible for a 60 percent increase in online revenue.
Prior to serving at the Center, she was the managing director of the Fund for Independence in Journalism, responsible for all operations. Assisting the production of online and multimedia investigative projects, she served as researcher, web editor, creative designer, assistant producer and communications strategist. She managed the Fund’s development program, and was part of a team that raised nearly $750,000.
Jeanne began her career at the New Hampshire Commission on the Status of Women and holds a Bachelor’s in Communications from the University of New Hampshire.
