Jon, general counsel to the Online News Association, is a member of the law firm of Dow Lohnes PLLC, where he heads the firm’s Media and Information Technologies practice out of Washington, D.C. Jon specializes in the representation of media and technology companies on a broad range of commercial, transactional, operational, litigation, privacy, and content matters. He has been representing businesses that gather and distribute news and information, sell advertising, market goods and services, and build community on the Internet for as long as there has been a commercial Internet. Jon was on the faculty of the Stanford Professional Publishing Courses from 1994 through 2008, has taught in the successor Yale Publishing Course since 2010, was program director of ONA’s “Law School for Digital Journalists” program at Harvard Law School in 2011, and is author of Internet Law: A Field Guide (BNA Books, 6th Edition, 2008). Before entering private practice, Jon clerked for U.S. Circuit Judge Jerome Farris and U.S. District Judge Almeric Christian. He is a graduate of Middlebury College and Stanford Law School.
