Ohio University
Originally from Tallahassee, Fla., Mariel has worked as a reporter, copy editor and editor at publications such as the Tallahassee Democrat and Break Magazine, Tallahassee's entertainment weekly. She recently interned at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

University of Iowa
Merrisa is from Urbandale, Iowa. She has worked as an online producer for WOI-TV.com in Des Moines and the ASNE Reporter in New Orleans. In the past, she has written for the ASNE Reporter, The Des Moines Register, WOI-TV.com, Iowa Journalist, The Daily Iowan, and the Newshawk. She is president of the University of Iowa's chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and editor in chief of Earthwords, the school's literary magazine. She currently works as the Webmaster for the UI's Department of Microbiology.

New York University
Steve hails from Richmond, Virginia and lives in New York City. He covers the Internet and technology for the New York Daily News, and has written for SPIN magazine, Popular Mechanics, and others.

Arizona State University
Nancie is from Tempe, Ariz., and she is working on her second degree. She is also the webmaster of Cronkite Zine and CEO of her own web development company, ChronicTech. She sees herself teaching at ASU in the future.

Northwestern University
Lily calls Los Angeles home. She recently completed an online editing internship at the Indianapolis Star. Prior to coming to Medill, she worked for three years as an online writer and editor for the Grammy Awards. She hopes to pursue a career as an online editor or producer.

Leah grew up in Pennsylvania and has spent the last several years in South Florida working for online news organizations including Internet Broadcasting Systems, Cox Interactive Media and most recently Palm Beach Newspapers, where she was a web producer. She plans to continue a career in the new media journalism field.

Belmont University
She is currently serving as the news editor for the campus newspaper, Vision, and did an internship with the Vanderbilt Commodore Insider, a Internet newsletter on the sports program, and did freelance writing for the local paper, Time Daily, last summer. She is from Muscle Shoals, AL.

Ithaca College
Kelly is from the soggy state of Oregon, although the frosty climes of upstate New York are where she grew up. She writes for the school newspaper, the Ithacan, and held an internship last summer with the Eugene Weekly. She dreams one day of becoming a food and travel writer.

Northwestern University
Vivek hails from Bombay (Mumbai), India. He worked for three years at ZDNet India and hopes to cover business and technology after graduating from Medill.

University of Southern California
Heather grew up in Massachusetts and received her BA in political science from Southern Methodist University. Heather worked in politics and law before entering graduate school. She interned at the Los Angeles Times Magazine, Fox News and CNBC. She is currently the managing editor of USC's OnlineJournalism.com. Heather is hoping to pursue a career as a media consultant.

Northwestern University
Will attended the University of Toledo for his undergraduate degree, where he worked as the Editor in Chief of the Independent Collegian. Since then he worked at the Toledo City Paper as a writer and photographer. An avid shutterbug, he recently founded the Medill student chapter of the National Press Photographer Association. He is pursing a career in new media development focused on graphics, design and multimedia content.

Northwestern University
Mike grew up in Colorado Springs, Colo., and spent the last three years in New Orleans, La. He freelanced for getmusic.com, AOL and and Entertainment Weekly in the Big Easy while writing fiction in his spare time. He would like to establish an integrated multi-media news service and write novels. On the way there, he wants to write about as many different subjects as possible.

University of Southern California
Tania Valdemoro is a graduate student at USC. She has worked in London for The Independent and Observer newspapers, as well as KCET-TV's "Life and Times Tonight" Show where she analyzed political ads during the 2002 California governor's race. Currently, she interns at the BBC's Los Angeles bureau where she's been working on recall election and Kobe Bryant stories. She also interns at the Pasadena Star News, where she writes features, news briefs and other local stories about any and everything. She wants to be a political reporter and later a foreign correspondent.

Belmont University
Amanda is from Goodlettsville, Tenn., a suburb of Nashville but now lives in the city proper. She serves as the Arts & Entertainment editor for the Belmont Vision, Belmont's student newspaper. She will serve as Editor to the Vision in Spring 2004. After graduation, Amanda would like to pursue a career in print journalism with a focus on feature writing and arts and entertainment.
